General Information
Who is Three D Radio?
Three D Radio is Adelaide’s independent, not-for-profit community radio station, broadcasting on 93.7FM, online and via our app. We have been broadcasting since 1979 as an S-Class community radio station across metropolitan Adelaide and surrounding country areas.
We are proudly 100% volunteer-run, with over 120 announcers and 80+ programs going to air each week. We are committed to playing contemporary, progressive and alternative music, and to providing space for voices and perspectives not often heard in mainstream media.
Who runs Three D Radio?
Three D Radio is operated by the Progressive Music Broadcasting Association (PMBA), a not-for-profit incorporated association established to apply for and hold a community radio licence. All volunteers at Three D Radio are members of the PMBA.
Are you government funded?
No. While Three D Radio may receive occasional grants (including government or council-funded grants), these make up a relatively small portion of our income.
The majority of our funding comes from subscriptions, membership, donations and sponsorship, which allows us to remain independent and accountable to our community.
Do you acknowledge Country?
Yes. Three D Radio acknowledges that we broadcast from Kaurna Country and recognise the Kaurna people as the traditional and prevailing custodians of the land.
We recognise the continuing connection of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to culture and Country, pay our respects to Elders past and present, and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded.
Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
Programming & Music
What kind of music does Three D Radio play?
We play contemporary, progressive and alternative music, with a strong focus on local and Australian artists.
Three D Radio does not use playlists or rotations. Each announcer has full editorial control over the music they present.
To ensure diversity across the station, we operate a quota system that aims for:
- At least 40% Australian music
- At least 20% local music
- At least 40% female content
Why is Three D Radio different?
Three D Radio is the 100% volunteer-run. Every dollar raised through subscriptions goes directly back into keeping the station on air and supporting local music and culture.
Subscriptions & Radiothon
Why support community radio?
Supporting Three D Radio means supporting:
- Progressive, local and alternative musicians
- Diverse, under-represented and independent voices
Community radio prioritises people and culture over profit, and our programming is created by volunteers who care deeply about what they put to air.
Why should I become a subscriber?
Subscriptions are the backbone of Three D Radio. By subscribing, you help keep us on air and independent.
Subscriber benefits include:
- Exclusive access to Depthcharge — our annual curated compilation of South Australian music
- A Three D Subscriber Card, unlocking discounts with local partners
- Discounts to Three D events
- Eligibility for giveaways and competitions
- The warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from supporting community radio
We offer a range of subscription types, including Heaps Full House, Full House, Individual, Concession, Band Full House, Band, and Arts / Not-for-Profit.
What is Radiothon?
Radiothon is Three D Radio’s annual subscription drive, held over ten days each August and celebrated on air as a station-wide festival of music and community.
It’s when we invite listeners to subscribe or renew their support, helping keep Three D Radio independent and volunteer-run. Radiothon features giveaways, special programming and major prize draws for individual and band subscribers.
Do subscriptions auto-renew?
No. Subscriptions are renewed annually. Radiothon in August is the most popular time to renew, but you can subscribe or renew at any time of year.
Can I donate without subscribing?
Yes. Donations are always welcome and genuinely appreciated. At present, donations are not tax deductible, but we are actively working towards Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.
Do you accept donated equipment or items?
Possibly. If you have equipment, furniture or other items you think the station may be able to use, please email mail@threedradio.com with details, condition, quantity and ideally a photo before bringing anything to the station.
Volunteering at Three D Radio
You’re welcome to explore Three D Radio – tune in, attend events and get a feel for the station – before deciding whether volunteering and PMBA membership are right for you.
Do I need to be a member to volunteer?
Yes. Once you decide to volunteer, you must become a current member of the PMBA. Membership is required for all volunteers, on and off air, and allows you to access station facilities and participate in how the station is run.
How can I get involved off air?
Once you’re a PMBA member, you can volunteer in a wide range of off-air roles. Off-air volunteers play a vital role in keeping Three D Radio running behind the scenes. We welcome help across sound production, technical and IT support, music processing and archiving, reception and administration, events, fundraising, social media, photography, video, website content creation… and more! Roles range from skill-based too easy to learn, and volunteering is a great way to build experience or support community radio.
To get involved, complete the Off-Air Volunteer Application Form.
How can I get involved on air?
All announcers are volunteers and must be PMBA members. If you’re interested in becoming an on-air broadcaster, we offer broadcaster training at select times throughout the year. Demand is high, and in line with our strategic plan, we prioritise people who have been under-represented or excluded from traditional media spaces.
To be considered, complete the On-Air Volunteer Application Form.
We also run Elevate Radio, a broadcast training program for people aged 18–30 who live, work or study in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs. The program typically runs two intakes per year, includes compulsory training and weekly live broadcasts, and is delivered in partnership with the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.
Do I need experience to volunteer?
No. Enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to learn matter more than experience.
Accessibility and inclusion
We are committed to improving access and inclusion. If you have accessibility requirements, please let us know so we can work with you to make volunteering possible and enjoyable.
Bands & Musicians
How do I submit music to Three D Radio?
Music must be submitted digitally via our Music Submission Form. Physical CDs and vinyl are always welcome!
We accept MP3 files only and do not accept music via email or social media DMs.
Airplay is always at the discretion of individual announcers.
Why hasn’t my music been played?
Airplay is not guaranteed. Three D Radio announcers have full editorial autonomy over their playlists.
Does subscribing as a band guarantee airplay?
No. Band subscriptions do not guarantee airplay but we will try to prioritise you… especially if you are a local SA musician!
Sponsorship & Promotion
How can I promote my band, business or event?
We offer sponsorship and promotional opportunities, including the Local Band Rate for South Australian artists, as well as custom campaigns for venues, promoters and interstate or international acts.
