Volunteer with us
Three D Radio is 100% volunteer-operated, both on and off air. Our station exists thanks to the time, skills and energy of volunteers who support community radio in many different ways.
You’re welcome to tune in, attend events and get a feel for what Three D Radio is all about before deciding to get involved. There’s a lot more to the station than just music!
OFF-AIR VOLUNTEERING
Alongside our volunteer announcers, there are many off-air roles that keep Three D Radio running behind the scenes. Some roles are highly skilled, while others are easy to learn — there are lots of ways to get involved.
We regularly welcome volunteers to help with:
- Production and broadcasting support
- Photography, videography and sound engineering.
- Administration and reception
- Website content, social media,
- Events, fundraising and station activities
- IT, Software, and Building.
Volunteering is a great way to gain real-world experience, build skills, or simply support a community you care about.
To get involved off air, complete the Off-Air Volunteer Application Form.

ON-AIR BROADCASTING
Three D Radio is powered by volunteer broadcasters who bring their passion for music, culture and community to the airwaves. If you’ve ever wanted to host your own radio program, discover new music, interview artists or share stories with a wider audience, our on-air broadcaster training provides a pathway to get involved. Training is offered at select times throughout the year and introduces participants to the fundamentals of community broadcasting, including studio operation, broadcast compliance, program planning, music programming, interviewing techniques and live presentation.
Becoming a broadcaster at Three D Radio means joining a creative and supportive
community of volunteers who contribute to one of Adelaide’s longest-running independent radio stations. Many presenters begin with a love of music or storytelling and develop valuable communication, media and production skills through their involvement at the station. Demand for training places is high, and in line with our strategic plan, Three D Radio prioritises applications from people who have been under-represented or excluded from traditional media spaces.
If you’re interested in joining our on-air community, complete the On-Air Volunteer
Application Form to be considered when training opportunities become available.

ELEVATE RADIO
Elevate Radio is a unique broadcast training program for people aged 18–30 who live, work or study in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs. Delivered by Three D Radio in partnership with the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, the program provides young people with hands-on experience in community broadcasting while developing skills that can open doors to creative, media and communication industries.
Participants begin with a compulsory training session that introduces the essentials of radio broadcasting, from using the studio equipment and presenting on air, to preparing playlists, interviewing guests and understanding how community radio works behind the scenes.
After training, the Elevate Radio team produces and presents a live weekly program every Thursday from 4.00pm – 5.00pm on Three D Radio, giving participants real experience in live broadcasting.
Beyond radio skills, Elevate Radio helps participants build confidence, creativity and
professional networks. Past participants consistently highlight the impact the program has had on their personal and creative development. Hayden Dale described the experience as “epic,” saying it gave him “confidence and courage to do things I couldn’t have dreamed of, like being on radio and interviewing musicians.” Zoe Goldfinch said the program “opened up a new world of opportunities,” helping her build industry connections and strengthen her marketing and broadcasting skills. Ian Zinchiri reflected on the sense of community created through the program, describing it as “ground-breaking” and a place where young creatives could grow, collaborate and feel supported.
Elevate Radio continues to create opportunities for emerging voices in Adelaide while
strengthening the connection between young people, community media and the city’s vibrant music culture.
